It's always Busch's fault, even when it might not be

Eventually, something was going to give. Each time the green flag dropped Sunday, cars leaned on one another like drunk frat boys leaving a mixer. Vehicles went three- and four-wide wide entering the corner, they jammed the middle, they spun out and stacked up as if in rush-hour traffic on the Mass Pike. No question, NASCAR's recently implemented double-file restart rule fueled plenty of action at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. But on such a tight race track, it also seemed to invite calamity.

Apparently tired of his recent pattern of leading the most laps and finishing somewhere other than first, Kyle Busch took a different tack in Saturday's Camping World RV Sales 200.

Busch tries to fight way out of midseason mini-slump

At this point, calling it a slump seems a little severe. Kyle Busch has won three times in this Sprint Cup season and is again poised to contend for the year-end championship battle, a position most of his competitors in the garage area would take in a heartbeat. But when compared to last year, and the command the younger Busch held over NASCAR for the first two-thirds of the season -- well, his results of late do seem rather mediocre by comparison.

After consistently being at or near the top of the speed charts in practices and qualifying third in his No. 47 Toyota, driver Marcos Ambrose was dealt a blow when his car blew an engine early in Saturday's final practice. He will now have to start in the rear of the field for Sunday's SaveMart 350.
