He plants one foot on the accelerator, one foot on the brake, and the rear tires begin to spin and scream. Thick, white smoke starts to billow from beneath the racecar, drifting into a grandstand filled with cheering fans. Engine parts mangle and melt. If he's really good, the driver can make the tires blow out, the loose pieces of tread ripping into the sheet metal of the rear end. When they finally roll the thing into Victory Lane, the vehicle is a charred, smoking husk of what it used to be.

Kevin Harvick and his wife, DeLana, have teamed with NHRA drag-racing veteran Bob Vandergriff Jr. to explore the option of fielding a Top Fuel dragster in NHRA competition. The proposed Harvick-Vandergriff Motorsports will specialize in offering its sponsors marketing opportunities in NHRA and each of NASCAR's top three series.

During his peak years at Richard Childress Racing, so many of Dale Earnhardt's championship runs were fueled by reliability. During his 1990 title quest, he finished 28 of 29 points events and during one 13-race stretch completed all but three laps. In 1993, the Intimidator finished 28 of 30 races, and clinched his sixth NASCAR crown by completing all but five laps in a 15-event span late in the year. His black No. 3 car was often as durable as a tank.

In more than a decade of racing in NASCAR's national divisions, Kevin Harvick has never been subjected to a random drug test. But if an official with the sanctioning body were to ask him to submit to one, the Sprint Cup driver would willingly oblige.
